Abstract

This study aims to describe the factors that cause SMA Negeri 13 Medan students to wear make-up to school, describe the phenomenon of using make-up in the school environment by SMA Negeri 13 Medan students and describe the efforts made by the school in dealing with students who wear make-up to school. The research method used is qualitative with a phenomenological approach. Data collection techniques are observation, interviews and documentation. The results of this study indicate that the factors that cause female students of SMA Negeri 13 Medan to wear makeup to school are caused by 2 factors, namely internal factors and external factors. The internal factor is the existence of a strong drive within oneself without outside influences which is the factor that causes them to use make-up. Factors that cause Medan 13 Public High School students to wear make-up to school are to cover up imperfections on their faces and to increase their self-confidence. While the external factor is the influence from outside which is a factor causing them to use make-up, namely social media, family and peers. Based on the research that the authors conducted in the field, it is true that Medan 13 State High School students wear makeup to school. SMA Negeri 13 Medan teachers also find students using and even bringing make-up products to school every day. Efforts made by the school in dealing with students who wear makeup to school are giving verbal and written warnings and conducting raids in each class.
