Abstract

Uniform education system that does not promote plurality actually brings many negative implications. Uniform education system does not only kill the creativity, but also creates intolerant attitude and perspective. Therefore, a school needs a multicultural learning design that is developed in the implementation of school education programs. The design of multicultural learning is carried out by taking into the needs of the group’s target, especially in terms of knowledge, which is combined with the cultivation and development of attitude to uphold the understanding and values ​​of integration. The social and cultural diversity of students is a challenge for SMA ABBS Surakarta in implementing multicultural education. The purpose of this study is to describe the implementation of multicultural education in SMA ABBS Surakarta. The type of this research is qualitative, the methods are interviews and observations, the place is in SMA ABBS Surakarta and the subjects include teachers, boarding supervisors (musyrifah) and students in SMA ABBS Surakarta. The results of this research can be seen to support the ability of multicultural children, ABBS presents in the midst of Surakarta communities with new innovations, such as: Saturday confident, fundraising (caring for friends), charity tube, lemon (language movement), AYRC (ABBS Youth Red Cross) and so on. In essence, these programs aim to create self-confidence, empathy and tolerance for students.
