Publication Ethics

JP-IPS is an electronic journal managed and published by LPPI Universitas Muslim Nusantara Al Washliyah Medan. It was first published in March 2016. As a research-based journal intended for researchers, teachers, practitioners, and students, it operates on the OJS platform and is indexed by several indexing services.

This scientific publication ethics statement outlines the code of conduct for all parties involved in the publication process of this scientific journal: the management, editors, peer reviewers, and authors. Fundamentally, this code upholds three ethical values ​​in publication: (i) Neutrality—freedom from conflicts of interest in publication management; (ii) Fairness—assigning authorship rights to those rightfully entitled to them; and (iii) Honesty—freedom from duplication, fabrication, falsification, and plagiarism.

Duties and Responsibilities of Journal Managers

Determining the journal's name, scope, publication frequency, and accreditation status (if required);

  1. Determining the composition of the editorial board;
  2. Defining the relationships between the publisher, editors, peer reviewers, and other parties through contracts;
  3. Respecting confidentiality regarding contributing researchers, authors, editors, and peer reviewers;
  4. Implementing norms and regulations concerning intellectual property rights, particularly copyright;
  5. Reviewing journal policies and communicating them to authors, the editorial board, peer reviewers, and readers;
  6. Establishing a code of conduct for editors and peer reviewers;
  7. Publishing the journal regularly;
  8. Ensuring the availability of funding for the journal's continued publication;
  9. Building cooperation and marketing networks; and
  10. Arranging for permits and other legal requirements.

Duties and Responsibilities of Journal Editors

Balancing the needs of readers and authors;

  1. Striving for the continuous improvement of publication quality;
  2. Implementing processes to ensure the quality of published manuscripts;
  3. Prioritizing objective freedom of expression;
  4. Preserving the integrity of authors' academic records;
  5. Issuing corrections, clarifications, retractions, and apologies when necessary;
  6. Taking responsibility for the style and format of manuscripts, while the content and all statements therein remain the responsibility of the authors;
  7. Actively seeking input from authors, readers, peer reviewers, and editorial board members to enhance publication quality;
  8. Encouraging the evaluation of the journal whenever issues arise;
  9. Supporting initiatives to reduce research and publication errors by requiring authors to submit ethical clearance forms approved by the relevant ethical clearance committee;
  10. Supporting initiatives to educate researchers on publication ethics;
  11. Reviewing the impact of publication policies on the attitudes of authors and peer reviewers, and refining these policies to foster greater responsibility and minimize errors;
  12. Maintaining an open mind regarding new ideas or viewpoints that may differ from their own;
  13. Refraining from stubbornly upholding their own views, or those of authors or third parties, in a manner that compromises objective decision-making; and Encouraging authors to revise their manuscripts until they meet the standards for publication.

Duties and Responsibilities of Peer Reviewers

Receiving assignments from the editor to review a manuscript and submitting the review to the editor to assist in determining the manuscript's suitability for publication;

  1. Refraining from reviewing manuscripts in which they are involved, either directly or indirectly;
  2. Maintaining author confidentiality by not disclosing corrections, suggestions, or recommendations regarding the reviewed manuscript;
  3. Encouraging the author to revise the manuscript;
  4. Re-evaluating the revised manuscript against established standards; and
  5. Reviewing the manuscript in a timely manner, in accordance with the journal's specific style guidelines and based on scientific principles (data collection methods, author legitimacy, drawing of conclusions, etc).

Author Duties and Responsibilities

Ensure that those listed as authors meet the criteria for authorship;

  1. Be collectively responsible for the work and content of the manuscript/article, including methods, analysis, calculations, and details;
  2. Declare the source of resources (including funding), both directly and indirectly;
  3. Explain limitations of the research;
  4. Respond to comments made by peer reviewers in a professional and timely manner;
  5. Inform the editor if they intend to withdraw the paper; and
