Abstract

The utilization of homestead land in rural areas remains suboptimal, while the availability of forage constitutes a major constraint in the development of livestock enterprises, particularly during the dry season. This condition necessitates practical and sustainable solutions to support household-level feed security. This study aims to examine the optimization of homestead land through the cultivation of odot grass (Pennisetum purpureum cv. Mott) and to enhance community knowledge and skills in forage provision. The method employed was a participatory approach using a learning by doing model, in which community members were directly involved in all stages of the activities. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results indicate an improvement in community knowledge and technical skills related to odot grass cultivation, as well as increased utilization of homestead land as a source of livestock feed. Furthermore, the program encouraged active community participation in managing local resources. This community service activity provides a practical contribution in the form of an applicable and sustainable community empowerment model to support the availability of livestock feed based on local potential.
