Abstract
Mercury is a metal that is dangerous and can cause toxic effects on humans. Mercury exposure can result from activities that can produce mercury, such as residential coal burning, industrial processes, waste incinerators, mining of mercury, gold and other metals, and the use of cosmetics containing mercury. Mercury compounds are toxic to the central and peripheral nervous system. The harmful effects of mercury exposure occur in the nervous, digestive and immune systems, lungs and kidneys, and can be fatal. Inorganic mercury salts are corrosive to the skin, eyes and digestive tract, and can cause kidney toxicity if ingested. The purpose of this community service activity is to educate people living in industrial areas about the dangers of mercury intoxication and the use of herbs to reduce the dangers of mercury exposure. The results of this activity are increasing public understanding of the dangers of mercury intoxication and increasing community skills in using herbs to reduce the toxic effects of mercury. Based on the results of the implementation of this community service activity, the use of leaflets can increase people's understanding and skills to reduce and prevent the harmful effects of mercury intoxication
