THE ROLE OF ENGLISH READING SKILLS IN UNDERSTANDING INTERNATIONAL ISLAMIC ECONOMICS LITERATURE

Abstract
This study aims to analyze the role of English reading skills in understanding international Islamic economics literature. The rapid development of Islamic economics globally has resulted in the increasing number of academic publications written in English. Consequently, students of Sharia Economics are required to possess adequate English reading skills to access and comprehend international references. This research employed a quantitative approach using a survey method. The population consisted of Sharia Economics students who had completed English courses, with samples selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using a reading comprehension test and a questionnaire measuring students’ understanding of international Islamic economics literature. The data were analyzed using simple linear regression. The results indicate that English reading skills have a positive and significant role in students’ understanding of international Islamic economics literature. These findings suggest that strengthening English reading skills is essential to enhance students’ academic competence and global insight in Islamic economics.
